Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't my music / pictures / video files not show up in StreetDeck?

StreetDeck will only use files that are found in certain directories.  By default these are set to the special My Music, My Pictures, and My Videos folders in windows.  These can be changed by the Edit Media Paths tool installed with StreetDeck under Start | Programs | StreetDeck | Tools | Edit Media Paths.

Additionally, For a file to be recognized in StreetDeck, it needs to have an appropriate MIME type associated with it in the registry. These are normally set correctly by windows already for the most common file types, but if not you can add a type manually by going into the registry editor in windows by going to Start | Run, typing in regedit.exe in the run dialog, then clicking Ok.

You should then browse to the extention for the file type you want to associate. The registry key you want should be found under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\<extention> where extention is the file type extention.

You should then create a Content Type string value by right clicking in the click area of the extention key and selecting New | String Value.

When prompted you should enter 1 of the following values depending on the type of file you are trying to register for My Music, My Videos, My Pictures respectively:
audio
video
image

For example to register the .dvr-ms video type to show up in StreetDeck in the videos module, you would goto the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dvr-ms key, create a new Content Type string value and set it to video

The built in GPS doesn't work on Viliv S5?

The Viliv S5's built in GPS will be automatically detected and used by StreetDeck if the GPS source is set to "Not Set" in navigation settings.  It may take several minutes to obtain a GPS lock the first time the GPS is used in a new location.  If the GPS doesn't work, please make sure the GPS has a clear view of the sky and the GPS source is set to "Not Set".  The GPS satellite status can be seen by clicking on the satellite signal strength in the lower right hand corner of the fullscreen navigation module.

Check out this video for more information.

NOTE: The Viliv GPS runs on COM port 1 at 9600 baud.  By default StreetDeck will connect only at 4800 baud if the COM port is manually selected.  If the GPS is autodetected, the proper baud rate will be automatically used.  To manually set a baud rate, use the command line parameter GPSBaud followed by the baud rate.  i.e. -GPSBaud:9600

How do I run StreetDeck with a command line parameter?

StreetDeck supports a number of command line parameters that allow you alter the way StreetDeck works or change an advanced configuration option.  To specify a command line parameter, you just need to add the command line parameter after the executable file in the shortcut's target field.  To do this, right click on the shortcut, choose Properties, select the Shortcut tab, then in the Target field, add the command line parameter after the ending " of the filename and followed by a space.  You can add multiple command line parameters one after another.  Make sure you add a space after the " and between each parameter otherwise it will now work correctly.

i.e. "C:\Program Files\StreetDeck\StreetDeck.exe" -GPSBaud:9600 -info
